Marylebone Homeless Women’s Centre

We were very honoured to have been invited to the launch of the Marylebone Project's Summer Programme at the Homeless Women’s Day Centre in Westminster.

The charity’s Patron Lady Carey of Clifton presented certificates to around fifty of the centre's clients, many of whom are either rough sleepers or live at the Church Army hostel. It was a truly inspirational afternoon, seeing women who had overcome the greatest personal circumstances to achieve an accredited qualification.

The project is unique in being the only centre in the UK dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless women. It offers practical and emotional support, and a wide range of educational classes including English, budgeting and IT.

The Marylebone team

Project Director Edwin Bates, Board Member Cllr Barbara Graham, Patron Lady Eileen Carey and Day Centre Manager Maria Hagi-Pavli. The group work tirelessly at all levels to support the project and it's beneficiaries.

The team then unveiled their 2007 Summer Programme, consisting of various education and cultural day trips, activities such as art and drama, as well as the much loved social events. Whilst enjoying our tea and cakes, we got the chance to chat with some of the women and to hear their stories of winning against all odds.

We have been fundraising for the project since May 2006, and have raised over £100,000 in this time, securing the project's future. We have a real soft spot for this project, it does such great work, and the team, clients and management are a fantastic bunch – congratulations to you all and keep up the good work.

New Appeal Launched for the Amber Project

We are very pleased to announce the launch of the 2007/08 fundraising appeal for the Amber Project, a Cardiff based initiative working with young people involved in self-harm.

We feel very privileged to be working with this client whose dedicated staff and volunteers provide vital support, counseling and group activities that help young people to cope with and address the factors attributing to their self-harm.

The appeal has been designed to raise £110,000 from trusts and foundations, which will enable the project to expand its core services further into Wales. JM Professional Fundraising have worked closely with the Project's director to formulate a detailed application for funding, this is being sent to carefully targeted high-value donors accompanied by a covering letter. As with most of our work, the nature of this project called for a great degree of discretion and sensitivity as we tackled a very emotional subject.

We spent 2 days at the project and joined in their activities and drama sessions. The young people at Amber are a great bunch and we made lots of new friends during our time there, the project is a fantastic piece of work and we just know that the appeal is going to be a big success.
