Focus on marketing tips

Before I became a fundraising consultant I worked in marketing for a well known electronics firm and before that I had a number of sales jobs whilst studying for my diploma in marketing.
Don’t worry this isn’t the start of my life story and no, Michael Aspel isn’t about to jump out with his big red book! This post is the introduction to the new marketing section of my little blog.
The other day I started to think about how many of my marketing skills were utilised in my fundraising campaigns. On reflection I have to say that it’s probably about 50/50 which is why I decided to include more about marketing in my blog.
For instance when I start work for a new client I normally carry out a SWOT analysis, If I plan a fundraising event I sometimes use the marketing mix to structure my business plan. When I write an application I always use SMART objectives.
Confused – you won’t be for much longer! Over the next month I’ll be looking at all the areas of marketing that I feel are important for a successful fundraising appeal.
